Hard habit to break

I have a bad habit.

(Actually, I have several, but that's beside the point.)

The one I'm referencing this go around is my tendency to continually put things off once I feel like I'm behind. I'm not sure how this helps exactly...maybe I think that I'll get around to catching up at some point...but the longer I wait the harder it is to do that.

So here I am, REALLY behind in posting and I keep putting it off because so much happened that I feel too far behind to catch up.

But seeing as how this is the time of year for making changes and resolutions, I'm going to attempt to change this bad habit (again!) and hopefully make it stick.

Here is the abbreviated version of December 2008:
  • I became a great aunt. (She is SOOO CUTE!)
  • Much to our pocketbook's dismay, we had to replace our water heater. But oh how nice the new one is!
  • Liam figured out crawling and is starting to pull himself up on things. Scary.
  • Matt graduated from college!! He had a double major - one in Criminal Law, one in Psychology. (MUCH REJOICING ENSUED)
  • The girls had their Christmas dance recital.
  • Kenna had her preschool Christmas program.
  • I crafted my heart out trying to finish baby gifts and Christmas presents.
  • For the first time since we've been married, we took time off work around Christmas. All we did was hang out at home and do Christmas type things with the kids, but we loved it!
  • Matt dug us out of the 4 foot high snow drifts in our driveway on Christmas day. (Have I mentioned we've had a lot of snow lately?)
  • I got a new Church calling.
  • Two weeks later I got another new calling.
  • Major work stress. (Gotta love budget cuts...)
Now that I've gotten all that out of the way, hopefully I won't fall back into procrastinator mode.

But feel free to slap me around a little if I do.

Probable reasons for not blogging (much) this week...

  1. It was my dad's birthday and we were too busy partying.
  2. Two of my three children (ACK! THREE! Still getting used to that...sorry.) have coughs that have kept all of us awake at night.
  3. I'm lazy. (I know, crazy talk, right? RIGHT?)
  4. I may or may not have spent a day in bed and/or hugging a big porcelain bowl.
  5. Potty training is hard work.
  6. It has snowed four times this week and I'm protesting.

So I guess I have some catching up to do. We actually had some other stuff happen this week, like...good stuff too.

Matt got a phone call from his sergeant on Tuesday night asking him to come teach a Defensive Tactics Class on Wednesday morning. While this created a bit of a panic when it came to baby-sitting arrangements for the kidlets, it's a great opportunity for him career-wise. Especially given that the sergeant called him, not the other way around. My ever helpful sister (Hi Lori!) came to our rescue, as so many of our family members have had to do lately, and took all three (ACK! THREE!) of the little rugrats for the day. The sergeant also asked him to teach four more classes in the next two weeks. Hopefully this is a good sign that advancement might be a possibility when his eligibility date hits.

We got some good news about dad as well. Turns out his PSA numbers went from just about 700 down to just about 500 after the chemo. This is like, stupendously amazing! The chemo is slowing down the cancer cells and that my friends, is some of the best news you can get.

I know more stuff happened...but after that, it doesn't seem all that noteworthy. Plus see reasons numbered 2 and 3 above. Lack of sleep and laziness is a bad combo.

Sick baby

We woke up with a sick girl this morning. Alyssa seems to have caught whatever cold was going around the family during Christmastime. Poor little thing. She seems pretty miserable. We ended up staying home today and just taking it easy.

I had some time to work on the baby quilt while she was sleeping. A few more squares down...way too many left still!

Hopefully she'll be feeling better quickly. There's nothing worse than having to watch your baby feel sick.

Help!

It just hit me that the baby is coming in about 6 weeks. I have now hit panic mode! There is still so much to do before he gets here. I think the blogging is going to get more spotty as the date approaches.

I still have a quilt, an afghan and 3 blankets to finish before that and innumerable things to do at work. Not to mention all the little baby things I need to get - like clothes and diapers.

Mom is going to help me with the quilt. For some reason I decided that I was going to hand quilt all the squares with designs instead using the maching to do the boring "X" across the middle. I have only done about 30 of the squares and I have 70 left. YIKES. So she will take some of the squares and help me finish that part.

ACK! I hope I can get it all done!

Christmas Shopping...

I had such great plans this year...I knew I was going to be big and pregnant by the time December rolled around, so I was going to be one of those fabulous super prepared people that you hear about in legend. The ones that have all their Christmas shopping done by August...

But you know what? I really really suck at figuring out what to get people for Christmas. Here we are less than three weeks away, and I have only bought three gifts so far. The sad thing is, I would have gotten more, I just have had no idea what to get people.

And with how many toys my kids have right now, I don't really feel like buying them more. What do you get a kid for Christmas, besides toys, that they won't be disappointed in? I'm leaning towards books...lots and lots of books. Maybe some art supplies...but with the events of earlier this week, I'm not sure that's such a great idea.

At any rate, here I am, big and pregnant and not wanting to brave the crowds, still no idea what to get people, and no time to shop. Is it wrong to order every single Christmas gift you give off Amazon, just because it's easy?
