It is always so nice to see friends that have been away for a long time.
Especially when those friends have been in places like Afghanistan.
One of our dear friends got back from his year long assignment in Afghanistan on Saturday. Oh what a relief to see him home safe and sound!
The girls were ecstatic. He has been a treasured playmate of theirs for a long time. Kenna had been asking me just a couple of weeks ago why he never came over to visit anymore. What a great surprise!
We were able to have a good (albeit short) visit with him last night. It was so interesting to hear about all the things he has been doing. It was kind of strange though, hearing about things that up until that point, I had only read about in newspapers or heard on TV. As he shared some of his experiences, the whole abstract concept of a far away war that I had in my head was shattered by the reality of hearing about it first hand. It was very sobering.
Regardless of whether or not we agree with the reasoning behind the war, we should honor the people that are willing to serve their country, wherever they are called to go, and in whatever capacity they serve in.
Pray for these amazing people!

Amen. I have so much respect for the men and women who serve our country, and for the families that stay behind and support them in their cause.
Nice to see you back in blogging mode. Rachel's delighted to have you as a teacher :).
Say Hi to him too. I think he remembers me.
